Crown Perth will become the first casino in Australia to reopen its poker room following nationwide COVID-19 closures when it welcomes back players this Saturday. But it won’t be poker quite as we know it, with play to be limited to five players per table for the foreseeable future.

In a Tuesday announcement, Crown Perth Poker said it would be open again from midday on Saturday 27 June with social distancing policies and strict hygiene measures in place. The reopening comes more than three months after Crown Resorts suspended all gaming operations at both Crown Perth and Crown Melbourne on 23 March due to state-imposed COVID-19 restrictions.

While Crown Perth is opening its doors once again, there has been no word yet as to when Crown Melbourne will follow suit given the recent outbreak of COVID-19 clusters across Victoria.

The Crown Poker Championship, originally scheduled for 15 to 27 April at Crown Melbourne, and the Crown Perth Poker Sapphire Series, scheduled for 21 to 31 May, have already been casualties of the pandemic.

Crown Resorts CEO Ken Barton said, “Crown’s priority is to the health and safety of our employees, customers and the community. The physical distancing and hygiene measures have been developed in consultation with the Government, Commissioner of Police and Chief Health Officer to allow reopening in a safe manner.

“We look forward to welcoming back many of our employees and customers to Crown Perth.”

The Crown Poker Room occupies an enormous space in the casino basement with over 50 poker tables to play in. It offers a variety of poker games and holds weekly tournaments. Buy-in for the tournament can range from $0 to the sky’s limit.
